Elizabeth Golding Lackie-Powell, 82 years young, entered her sweet eternal rest in Jesus on May 18, 2018. She was born in Hillside, N.J. and was raised at the Jersey Shore, the youngest daughter of ten children. She embraced life with adventure and a “can-do” attitude from early on and joined the Women’s Army Corps in 1956. While stationed at Ft. Lee, she met and married Staff Sgt. Philip G. Lackie, the father of her two children. As an adult, she went to college and re-entered the work force. Among her many pleasures were playing piano, writing poetry, raising and riding horses with her family, travel and as of late the game of Scrabble. After her first loving husband, Philip, died she was blessed with another good husband, Lawrence Powell. She retired from civil service and was a faithful member of Monumental Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands; and her loving daughter, Sharon Wessel. She is survived by her son, Glenn Lackie and wife, Vicky and their daughter, Jessica Taylor; her grandchildren, Kory Wessel (Nina) and their baby girl, Natalie, Cailin Martin (Josh,) and son, Austin, Kyler Wessell and their father, Michael Wessel. The family would like to thank Crater Community Hospice for their love and care shown toward Elizabeth. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Monumental Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 2151, Memphis, TN 38101 in Memory of Elizabeth Lackie-Powell. Condolences may be registered at
