William R. "Bill" Jones, 72, of Chester, VA, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016.
Born in Dinwiddie, VA, he was the son of the late, John M. and Myrtle O. Gunter Jones; and was also preceded in death by his fiancée, Wanda and their unborn child, Christina Maria. Mr. Jones served his country proudly as a veteran in the United States Marine Corp, serving with the 3rd Marine Division during the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from Hercules, Bill continued to work as a warehouse manager for Lee Moving and Storage Company for over 30 years, and was currently employed with Tanner Van Lines. He took such pride in his work and believed in working hard, being honest and giving to others. Bill was a loving and devoted gentle man and his passion in life was his William's Christmas Kids Foundation, which was founded in 1985. He started the foundation to bring Santa into the lives of under privileged children as well as other members of our community including, Christmas parties he held at VCU Medical Center for critically ill children. Bill’s goal was to embrace the hopes and dreams of children, to make positive and lasting impact on their lives and to ensure that every child had Christmas. A special and heartfelt thank you to all the sponsors who made The William's Christmas Kids Foundation such a success over the years.Bill is survived by his two special friends, Pamela L. Avery and Diane H. Price, and their families; all the children and lives he touched throughout the years with his endless generosity; and his many friends he made along the way. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Chester Chapel at J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
