James (Jim) Raymond Rigney Jr., 83, of Hopewell, passed away on Thursday October 27, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, James R. and Catherine Bryant Rigney; son, Jason Rigney; and his brother Kenneth Rigney. Jim retired from Honeywell after 30 years of service, and served as a magistrate for Hopewell and Prince George County for 15 years. He participated in the Jr. Achievement Program while at Honeywell. Jim was a past Vice President of the Virginia Magistrates Association, and was a past member of the Toastmasters Club. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing for many years, and was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he served in numerous positions. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Stowe Rigney; son, Steven Rigney (Tammy); grandsons, Jonathon Rigney, Joshuah Rigney; sister, Jean Jefferson (Avertt); sister in law, Joyce Rigney; extended family, Mildred and Wayne Walton, Jimmy and Carol Stowe, Donnie and Cecelia Stowe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 12pm on Monday October 31, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church 2901 Norfolk St, Hopewell, VA 23860. The family will receive friends from 11am to 12pm on Monday October 31, 2016 at the church. Interment will be private.
