Lewis Heilman, Jr., 92, went to be with the Lord on May 5, 2023. He was born and raised in Kenton, Ohio, and spent most of his adult life in Hopewell and Chester, VA. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and devoted his life to taking care of and spending time with his family. He served his country and was a proud Navy veteran. He retired from Nabisco as a mechanic, and spent the rest of his working career as a millwright. He was a member of the Powers Memorial Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and was a deacon. More recently he was a member of Sandston Baptist Church in Sandston, VA. He was also a member of Sandston Masonic Lodge #216. After retirement, he spent endless hours in his shop doing woodworking and was especially proud of the many things large and small that he built. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alma Hall Heilman; his children, Lewis Karl Heilman (Judy) of Henrico, VA, Michael Alan Heilman (Donna) of Chester, VA and Sandra Heilman Bowe (Kenny) of Chester, VA; grandchildren, Michael Heilman, Craig Heilman, Lauren Heilman, Monica Sulc, Chad Massey, Hailey Bernshausen, Lance Bowe, and Brandon Bowe; six great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express gratitude for Jewel and Ashley and the staff of Suncrest Hospice. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 11 a.m., at the Sandston Baptist Church, 100 W. Williamsburg Road, Sandston, VA 23150. Interment will follow at 2 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sandston Baptist Church.
