Robert L. Jack, born July 18, 1945 to Robert D. Jack and Farol LaVerna Miller Jack in Sabetha, Kansas. Graduated from Sabetha Rural High School in 1963, was a scholarship student at Kansas State Teachers College now (Emporia State University). During college Robert was a Resident Aid at the men’s dormitory and a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon Alpha Chapter fraternity. Upon graduation in 1967 was hired by the Emporia KS School System to teach at Rinker Elementary and after school PE at Whittier Elementary. After one year of teaching in Emporia, Robert received his draft notice and entered the US Army in August 1968, basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was then transferred to Fort Lee, Va. For Supply Sgt. and Armorer School where he was the Distinguished Graduate of his class. After serving at Fort Lee, Robert was transferred to Vietnam, serving in Phu Bai and Da Nang. Upon release from the service Robert was hired by the Hopewell School System in the initial Elementary P.E. program at Dupont Elementary School 1971-1977. During this time, Robert attended Virginia State 72-74 to obtain his Master’s Degree. In 1977 Robert left teaching to join Cavalier Central Bank where he became the manager of the Enon branch. In 1979, returned to teaching P.E. at Carter G. Woodson. While teaching in Hopewell served as Treasure for several years of the Hopewell Education Association. During this time, he was also a Big Brother to Walter Mays, as well as the Treasurer and served on the BOD for the organization. Robert became a foster parent to Love Lea Burkey thru the Hopewell Dept. of Social Services and where he also served as Treasurer. In 1985 Robert left teaching to become a Reimbursement Officer at Central State Hospital where he retired from in 2009. In addition to his employment career, he also ran Woods Unlimited Furniture Refinishing and Repair and Paige and Bob’s Antique Shows and Sales. Robert married Janet K. Rittenhouse in 1966 resulting in the birth of Nicolle Leigh Jack and Courtney Miller Jack. In 1995 Robert remarried to Paige Townsend, who preceded him in death in 2002. Besides his daughters, he is survived by grandsons, Chase Bornstein, Cameron Washington, Cayden Williams, and granddaughter Serena Williams. He is also survived by his best friend, Millie Livesay. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home.
