Ula Mae Wilson Maitland, 85, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021. Born in Petersburg, VA she was the daughter of the late Mashel “Pete” Wilson and Hilda Curtis Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Rogers Maitland; sisters, Jean H. Wilson, Mary W. Vaughan, and Rebecca W. Albin; and brother, Ronald E. “Pete” Wilson.
Ula was a member of Matoaca Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed cross-stitching, solving crossword puzzles, watching golf, and rooting for the Washington Redskins. She is loved and will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna M. Dowdy (Ralph) and Jean M. Cummins (Tom) of Chesterfield, and Michelle L. Maitland of Petersburg; sons, James D. Maitland (Rhonda) of Brunswick and Andrew T. Maitland of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Sarah J. Maitland, Danielle L. Maitland, James D. Maitland, Jr.; Thomas M. Cummins, David L. Maitland, Jessica M. Suits, Jennifer L. Harrell, Elizabeth M. Cummins, and Abigail R. Maitland; great-grandchildren, Rylee Maitland, Avery Maitland, Alisana Harrell, Jacob Rice, Brandon Rice, and Chloe Suits; sisters, Joyce W. Lipford (Grayson) of Macon, GA and Doris W. Wells of Chesterfield; and brother-in-law, George M. Maitland of Macon, GA.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. For the safety of family and friends, all who attend are encouraged to wear masks and to practice social distancing. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Dunlop House for their care and assistance.
