Aaron Gray Jernigan was born in Richmond, Virginia on August 4, 1978. His mother was Jane Renea Jernigan and his father is J. Michael Jernigan. Aaron's mother died from cancer in July of1997. Aaron lived with his father in Chester, Virginia. Aaron is survived by his son, Aaron Wesley Jernigan; his brother, Adam Michael Jernigan; his sister, Ashley Jernigan-Lewis; his sister in law, Jenny Jernigan; his brother in law, Brandon Lewis; his uncle, G. C. Jernigan; his aunt, Caroline Jernigan, his aunt, Karen Nash; a nephew, Thomas Gideon Lewis, and many other relatives and friends. Aaron was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout when he was in elementary school through high school. He earned the Arrow of Light and Eagle Scout. Aaron was a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. Growing up, Aaron played baseball, ran track, wrestled, and played football. At Thomas Dale High School, Aaron earned varsity letters in track, wrestling, and football. He played in the Colt baseball league during the summers as a pitcher with a nasty curve ball and a change-up. Aaron also loved history, hunting, and fishing. He helped coach his son's baseball and football teams. Aaron belonged to Chester Methodist Church. He was a devout Christian. Aaron graduated from Thomas Dale High School and Fork Union Military Academy. He earned an AS degree at Richard Bland College and a bachelor's degree from VCU. Aaron became a special education teacher and taught at Thomas Dale High School until back problems caused him to retire from teaching and coaching. He was an excellent special education and history teacher based on the notes he still receives from his former students. Aaron was an assistant coach on the JV Football Team and the varsity baseball team at Thomas Dale High School. Aaron loved his family, especially his son, father, brother, and sister. Aaron's son, father, brother, and sister loved him very much. His loss is devastating to his family. Visitation will be held at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. 3050 W. Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23831. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 30, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at J.T.
