Born on January 16, 1937, in Lahore, Pakistan, Agha Nisar Khan passed away on December 13, 2024, in Petersburg, Virginia. Our father lived a life defined by love, selflessness, and dedication to his family. His final moments were a testament to his character: while helping his beloved wife, Mary, after she fell, he passed away, still holding her hand. His unwavering commitment to putting others first was both his greatest strength, and ultimately, his undoing. He was a devoted father to Omar and Beth, raising them with a relentless drive to achieve their goals and reach high levels of education. Through his guidance, encouragement, and steadfast support, he instilled in them a love of learning and a determination to succeed. His influence continues to inspire them in every step of their lives. Our father also brought light and laughter into our family. His sense of humor was unmatched, and moments like his backyard dance with sparklers will remain cherished memories for Omar and Beth. Our father's professional life was marked by his passion for education. After earning his Ph.D. in Economics from Virginia Tech, he spent many years teaching at Virginia State University, where he also served as the department head. Yet, his true calling laid in teaching, and he chose to return to the classroom even after retirement, on the condition that he wouldn't have to attend meetings. His commitment to his students and his love of sharing knowledge were hallmarks of his career. Above all, our father will be remembered for his love, his humor, and his tireless devotion to his family. His selflessness and unwavering presence in our lives will be deeply missed but never forgotten. He has left us with a legacy of love, learning, and laughter that will forever guide us. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Feather Khan; his son, Omar Bryan Khan (Deborah Duncan); daughter, Elizabeth Khan Hickey (Timothy Hickey); and grandsons, Oscar Khan, Greg Hickey, and Ryan Hickey. Graveside services will be private.
