Agnes Sylvia Hayvagian Peebles, 93, a longtime resident of Waverly and widow of Nathaniel Proctor Peebles, Jr., died Saturday, December 3, 2011. Mrs. Peebles was born in Massachusetts, but spent her earlier years in Richmond. She was the daughter of the late Harry Stephen Hayvagian and Araxie Jamgochian Hayvagian. She was a graduate of John Marshall High School and the Pan-American School. She was employed as a secretary by the United States Tobacco Company in Richmond for 17 years; and as a secretary and statistical assistant for the U. S. Army Logistics Management Center and the U. S. Army Troop Support Agency, Fort Lee. She retired after 20 years of service, after which she served as Librarian for the Waverly Library for nine years. In addition, she served as Vice President of Waverly Motors since the death of her husband. She was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church and was formerly secretary of the Council Board of that church. She was a former member of the John Rolfe Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. Mrs. Peebles is survived by her son, Nathaniel Proctor Peebles, III and his wife, Kathy Owens Peebles of Waverly; her grandchildren, Brian Wayne Peebles and his wife, Kristin of Raleigh, NC and Lesley Anne Peebles of Charlotte, NC; a great-granddaughter, Madison Price Peebles; sisters, Isabelle H. Davidian of Woodland Hills, CA and Helen H. Chekemian of Sherman Oaks, CA; niece, Laura D. Moniz of Pasadena, CA; nephew, Larry T. Davidian of New Mexico. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 6th at the Wakefield Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, with Rev. Donna Smith, Pastor of Waverly United Methodist Church, officiating.
