Alan Sheffield Foster, 62, of Prince George, VA, died Tuesday, October 10, 2023. Alan was a devoted husband, son, Papa, all-around friend, and a dedicated lifelong resident of the county he loved. He was a lifetime member of Prince George Volunteer Fire Department Company 1 for 48 years, beginning in 1975. He was a 2nd generation firefighter, following in the footsteps of his father and served alongside other family members, Alan was a true community steward by supporting all of the groups and clubs within the county.
Alan also supported his community by being the voice of comfort and reassurance during their time of need in his position as a 911 operator and communications supervisor for Prince George County before retiring after 29 years.
His hobbies included amateur radios, collecting scanners, CB's and other fire department related memorabilia. But, what gave him the most joy was taking his grandchildren to school in the "Papa Bus." His grandchildren were his world and he loved watching them in their activities or just hanging out at home playing some paper football.
Alan was preceded in death by his father, Garland R. Foster, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Robbi Harlow Foster; his mother, Evelyn Padgett Foster; siblings, Sandra Perkins (Charles), G. Reid Foster, Jr. (Bonnie), Kevin (Tara); son, Randy Alan Foster; grandchildren, Evan Foster, Alexis Foster, Owen Foster; their mother, Liz Gegenheimer (Mike) and grandson, Michael Gegenheimer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, October 16, 2023 at Prince George Volunteer Fire Department Co. 1 in Prince George, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 11:00am at Prince George Christian Church in Prince George, VA.
