Alan Dale Nance, 69, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. He was born in Prince George to the late Col. Marvin Lee Nance (Ret.) and Sita Ballengee Nance. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Nance Clarke and her husband, David; son, Nathaniel Alan Nance and his wife, Betlina; grandson, Philips Clarke; and siblings, Edward and Judith. Alan attended the University of Pittsburgh. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army. Alan worked as a Mechanical Engineer throughout his life and was the proud owner and founder of A. D. Nance and Associates, it was his passion. In his free time, he loved restoring old steam engines. He contributed to texts such as the “Piping Handbook, Seventh Edition” and he was a respected leader of the Code Committee of ASME. Alan also enjoyed teaching classes in various aspects of mechanical engineering. He had a big heart and loved his family. He served as primary caregiver to his mother in her final years.
