Albert Lee Seward, Jr. “Jumbo”, 82, of Petersburg passed away after a short illness on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Jumbo was a native of Petersburg born the son of the late Albert Lee Seward and Anna Baskerville Cuthbert Seward. After graduating from Petersburg High School he did post-graduate work at Woodberry Forest School and then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia where he played lacrosse and was a member of St. Anthony Hall fraternity. Jumbo served in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves. After returning to Petersburg, Jumbo was associated with Seward Luggage Co. and then became a Real Estate Broker. Jumbo was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Petersburg, and was especially interested in the Crippled Children’s Project. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where he was junior warden. Later, he was an active member of Christ and Grace Episcopal Church. Jumbo served as chairman of the Board of Regents of Bollingbrook School. He was a member of the Country Club of Petersburg where he participated in tennis, but was especially fond of golf and was honored to become a president of the Country Club of Petersburg. Jumbo is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sally Seward; five children: Albert Lee Seward III, wife Ruth Ann and grandchildren, Natalie and William; Elizabeth Seward Deastlov, husband Paul and grandchildren Anne Cuthbert and Peyton; Robert Lewis Seward, wife Tara and grandchildren Spencer and Keely; Christopher Porter Seward; Sara Seward McGlothlin and husband Alex; nephews Walter H. Brown III and Phillip S. Brown. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nan Seward Brown Jones. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Christ and Grace Episcopal Church followed by a reception in Lackey Hall.
