Dr. Albert Russell Wing was born to Albert Otis Wing and Catherine Wing (née McCathy) on December 14, 1932 in Brooklin, Maine and passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home on January 13, 2021 in Chester, Virginia. Russell was a graduate of Crosby High School in Belfast, Maine, and he earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in education from the University of Maine at Orono, the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, and the University of Southern Mississippi. Russell dedicated his life to education. His career as a teacher and professor spanned more than 40 years.
Russell was a fan of all things sci-fi and fantasy, and was an earlier devotee of personal computing. He spent countless happy hours reading Anne McCaffrey books, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and watching Doctor Who. He loved peanut butter & banana sandwiches, liver & onions, and mincemeat pie (and blaming an invisible dog for the resulting flatulence). Russell had an easy smile and a quick wit, which he used to charm countless ladies across this great nation, and many nurses in his final months.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Libby, and his brother David. He leaves behind five children: Linda, Jeffry, Chris, Susan, and Laurel; and a growing gaggle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We hope that he has found a comfortable recliner, an adoring lap dog, and an epic wi-fi connection on the other side.
