Alberta â??Bertâ? Wilkins West, 83, a resident of Zuni, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009. Born in Southampton County on April 15, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Hazel Umphlette Wilkins.
She was the widow of Harold M. West, who died April 15, 2008. Harold and Bert were married for 63 years. She was a long time member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. She drove a school bus for Southampton County Public Schools for over 40 years.
She was a loving wife, committed mother, grandmother and great grandmother, was devoted to her faith and read her Bible each day and lived her life through her faith. She and Harold spent many happy hours camping with friends and family.
She is survived by her two sons, Ronald M. West and wife Cindy, and Donald T. West and wife Andrea, both of Zuni; six grandchildren, Rhonda, Lori, Chris, Donna, Wayne and Marlana; six great grandchildren, Harley, Michelle, Gabriel, Danielle, Olivia, and Rachel; sister-in-law, Geraldine West of Williamsburg and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 2:00 PM in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Zuni. Dr. Rob Edwards will preside. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Purviance Chapel, J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral on Thursday from 6-8PM and other times at the resident of Ronnie and Cindy West, 12452 Tucker Swamp Rd., Zuni. The family will also receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church following the committal service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Mission Fund, 37527 Seacock Chapel Rd., Zuni, VA 23898.
