Alexandria Phyllis Moragne

August 18, 1953 — July 10, 2018

Alexandria was born on August 18, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA. to Thomas and Mary Moragne. She was the youngest of seven children. She was affectionately called “Candy.” Candy attended Clymer Elementary, Stetson Jr. High, and Kensington High School for Girls. Shortly after graduating she enlisted in the U.S. Army and served twenty years retiring with an Honorable discharge in 1993. Candy received many medals and accommodations for her excellent service to the Armed Forces. One of the things she was proud of was becoming a sharp shooter. She served her country in Germany, Korea, Yuma, AZ, Fort Hood, TX, and other places. One funny thing about Candy and her service to her country was: when she came home from her first stint in Germany, she returned knowing more than everyone including our mother. After being Honorably discharged from the Armed Services she continued to serve as a Property and Facilities Coordinator for the Department of Social Service in the state of Virginia for 20 years.
Candy was raised in a Christian home and attended her grandfather’s church, Jones Temple COGIC. She participated in the Rosebuds Choir, Sunshine Band, YPWW, and Sunday School. Candy accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a teenager. She believed God could do anything but fail.
Candy is the proud mother of one daughter, Alexandra, who is affectionately called “Precious.” She is also the grandmother of two beautiful granddaughters, Alessandra and Charlotte. These two girls brought so much joy into her life. She really enjoyed taking them to their favorite super hero movies. We learned that she was a connoisseur regarding super heroes by having many Marvel comic books. Candy was also a very crafty person, making beautiful things for the family. All of us are recipients of her gift of crafting. She passed this gift down to her daughter and granddaughters.
Candy was affectionally called “BOOBALA” by Alessa and “NANA” followed by “BANANA” by Charlotte. She knew what they liked and made sure they got it. She was the epitome of a great mother and grandmother. She was so proud of her daughter Precious, and always pushed her to be the best that she can be. Candy according to Precious: “My mother was tough as nails, but under the surface she was the kindest, most generous, understanding and patient person you could ever meet.” She was a Girl Scout leader for about three years and never let a child be left out.

Candy leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Precious, granddaughters, Alessandra and Charlotte; sisters, Barbara, Francine (Howard), Terry (Reggie), Linda; one brother Sonny; two sister cousins, Carmen and Sheila; goddaughter, Roben; future son-in-law, Luke; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers.

The family will receive friends, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 19, 2018 at J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 820 W. Broadway, Hopewell, VA 23860, with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment is private.
