Alfred A. Scimone

September 19, 1938 — September 7, 2019

Alfred Antonino Scimone went to be with his Heavenly Father on the morning of September 7, 2019. He was in the peace and comfort of his own home in Petersburg, VA. He was 80 years old at the time of his passing. Born in Ancona, Italy, Alfred had an unwavering faith in God that was awe inspiring. He spent years writing about his faith and his Christianity. His adventurous spirit and joy of life were infectious to all who knew him. Some of his favorite things to do included writing, sailing, wood working, bicycling, kayaking and working with the Boy Scouts. He achieved an Italian Doctorate in Statistics from the University of Rome. Upon graduation, he worked as a Foreign Trade Official until the age of 30 when he moved to the United States to get married and start a family. He continued his education at Washington University in St. Louis, MO where he achieved a Master’s Degree in Economics. Alfred worked for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in New York, and for the U.S. Army as a Professor of Operations Research Analysis in the Army Logistics Management College at Fort Lee, VA. He taught in various other capacities throughout his lifetime, to include teaching senior military officers and as a college economics and mathematics professor. After retiring from ALMC, he went on to write and publish his first book, Two Swords and was working on several manuscripts at the time of his passing. Of all of his achievements, he always felt that his children were his greatest gifts from God. He will be dearly missed and forever adored by his children. Alfredo was the son of the late Giovanni Scimone and Ada Balzarini. Alfred is survived by his adoring and beloved wife, Bonnie Harrup Scimone; his sister, Clelia Alberini; his loving children, Christopher Scimone, John Paul Scimone and Jessica Scimone Wingle; his grandsons, Luke Wingle, Jacob and Collin Scimone; and his granddaughters, Reese and Carys Scimone. The family will receive friends at Sacred Heart in Prince George, VA on Friday, September 20, 2019 for a memorial mass at 11am followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.
