Alice Inez "MaMa" Crabtree, 87, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. Formerly of Roxboro, North Carolina, and residing in Hopewell, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Paul and Mallie Sue Paul. Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Melvin R. Crabtree, Jr.; as well as her sisters, Pat Moore and Katie Mae Coates. Alice was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed playing softball herself. She was also a fervent supporter of the UNC Tarheels. She liked to garden and plant flowers in her spare time. Most importantly, she loved to attend her grandchildren's events, whether that was their baseball games, dance recitals, or soccer games. Her two girls and grandchildren were her world. She will be greatly missed. Alice is survived by her daughters, Joni Crabtree and Sheila Hock (David); two grandchildren, David Wayne Hock (Amanda) and Ashley Lowrance (Matt); five great-grandchildren, Dawsyn and Chloe Hock, Blakely, Baker, and Bree Lowrance; sister, Jenny Mace (Dwight); bonus great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Saunders, Aubrie, Madelyne and Peighton Camp, and McKenna and Eli Crutchfield; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Crater Community Hospice for their care and love towards Alice over the past several years, especially to Tracy, Paige, and Teresa. They would also like to thank Alice's caregivers, Vangie and Cheyanne who treated Alice like she was their own family members. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 31, 2023, at J.T. Morriss & Son - Hopewell, 820 W. Broadway Avenue, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A second visitation will be held in North Carolina, on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Strickland & Jones Memorial Funeral Services, 1810 Durham Road, Roxboro, from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM, where a graveside service will directly follow held at Oak Grove Church of Roxboro, 854 Oak Grove Mount Zion Road, Roxboro.
