Alice Alden Dolbear, 83, of Chester, VA, died January 9, 2025. Born in Hartford, CT, and raised in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late George E. Alden and Frances M. Grasso. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who had a zest for life and was very proud of her Italian heritage. As a former Marine, she was an active member of the Women Marine's Association and enjoyed staying in touch with her friends from the Marine Corps. She was also a descendant of John and Priscilla Alden from the Mayflower, and an active member of The General Society of Mayflower Descendants. She enjoyed creating art through oil painting and crafts, collecting Coca Cola memorabilia, and most of all spending quality time with her seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, James Russ Dolbear. She is survived by her son, Michael Joseph Parrish and his wife, Angie, of Chester; her daughter, Kim Marie Dobson, of Chester; and her son, William Atwell Parrish and his wife, Becky, of Dolphin; grandchildren, Kayla Parrish and husband, Matthew Lindsay, of Daleville, Laura Parrish, of Cave Spring, Austin and Aaron Dobson, of Chester, and Nick, Chris, and Kate Parrish, of Dolphin.
Services will take place on Sunday, January 12, 2025, and will include visitation from 1-2 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2 pm, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest with military honors at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia in a private ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Women Marine's Association (www.womenmarines.org) or the Dolphin Fire Department, 7509 Liberty Road, Dolphin, VA 23843.
