Alice Johnson

Alice Shumate Johnson, 64, of Hopewell passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011 in John Randolph Medical Center. Mrs. Johnson was born in Beckley, West Virginia and had been a long time resident of the Hopewell area. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wanus Shumate, Loraine Shumate Collier and Stepfather Donald Collier, Sr., her husband Jack W. Johnson, two sisters, Joyce Phipps, Glora Bryant and a step-brother, Donald Collier, Jr. Mrs. Johnson was a teacher in the Petersburg Public School System. She is survived by her daughter Karen Matthews and her husband Jonathan, a son, Joel W. Johnson and his girlfriend Whitney Cake, a grandson, Benjamin Matthews, a stepbrother Richard Collier, a devoted niece Sandra Fields and numerous other family and friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell, VA.
