Alice Virginia Wright Flory Wallace, 75, of Prince George, VA passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017. Alice, a dearly loved wife, mother, and grandmother, was born November 10, 1941 in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA to the late Dr. James Christopher and Alice Tullos Wright . Alice is also preceded in death by grandparents, Thomas Jefferson and Ella Mai Tullos and Jacob George and Josephine Holliday Wright.
Alice is survived by her husband of 29 years, Rufus William Wallace; son, John Ditman Flory (Katharine) of Columbus, GA, and their four children, Averett , Kate, Peyton, and Virginia Flory; daughter, Elizabeth Flory Markwood (Timothy) of Ashland, VA, and their three children, Ryan Markwood, and Wright and Flory Brockwell; daughter, Mary Alice Flory Thomas (Scott) of Baltimore, MD, and their two children, Reid and Flory Thomas; step children, Robert William Wallace (Harrisonburg, VA) and Jayne Beth Hartman (Mathias, West VA) and their children. Alice is also survived by sisters, Ann Wright Bell and Mary Wright Hutson (Dean) of Signal Mountain, TN; brother, James Christopher Wright, II. (Barbara) of Chattanooga, TN; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Alice, nicknamed "Sugar Plum" at an early age, grew up on Lookout Mountain, GA, and graduated from Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, TN. She attended the University of Chattanooga, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She relocated to Virginia and earned a degree in Elementary Education from Madison College, Harrisonburg, VA in 1971. Alice touched the lives of hundreds of children for 36 years until her retirement in 2008. She taught at Elkton Elementary School , Elkton, VA; Burrowsville Elementary , Burrowsville, VA; and Beasley Elementary School , Prince George, VA
Alice was a devoted member of Christ and Grace Church in Petersburg, Virginia where she was a member of the Episcopal Church Women and the Altar Guild. She was passionate about family history and was an active member of the Petersburg Daughters of the American Revolution and Tri-Cities Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Throughout the years, she enjoyed her memberships in the Petersburg Book Club and Petersburg Garden Club. She enjoyed her summers as a member of Battlefield Park Swim Club and was an avid bridge player. Her most-loved activity was being with her nine grandchildren, who fondly call her "Ali". She was an integral part of their everyday lives and enjoyed special times with them traveling, attending sports and activities, and playing dominoes.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2017 at Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, Petersburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the church. Interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Ash Camp Memorial Cemetery in Keysville, VA.
