Alma Jennings Hasty, 92, died on Friday, February 6, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur D. and Marie Ambs Jennings; husband, LT. COL (RET) Winfred L. Hasty, Jr.; brother, Lyell Jennings and her sister, Evelyn Jennings. Alma worked for Kerosatas Brothers Theater in the 1940â??s in Springfield, Illinois and sold war bonds very successfully during World War II. She was a loving and generous stay at home mother who was always there for her son and his family. She was an outstanding Army wife who was a member of Fort Lee Officerâ??s Wives Club and the Gray Ladies who supported the Army Hospital at Fort Lee in the 1950â??s and 1960â??s. She was an active supporter of Saint Josephâ??s School where her son attended in the late 50â??s and 60â??s. She was one of the â??Greatest Generationâ? and truly exemplified the spirit of that era. Alma is survived by her son, Wynn L. Hasty, III and wife, Susan of Colonial Heights; grandchildren, Jennifer B. Aulgur and husband, Mike of Richmond, Jason L. Hasty of Petersburg, and Jamie M. Hasty of Abingdon; six nieces and nephews, all from the Midwest; her best friend from high school, Mignon Klang of Springfield, Illinois and her special friends at Colonial Heights Health Care Center, Myrtle Whitaker and her family and Dr. Kirby Hart. A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at Southlawn Memorial Park. The Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint Josephâ??s School or Tri-Cities Chapter Alzheimerâ??s Association.
