Altamae O’Neill Elrod, 86, of Hopewell, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004 in John Randolph Medical Center. She was born in Wilson, North Carolina and had been a resident of this area since 1926. Mrs. Elrod was a member of the First Baptist Church, a member of the Grace T.E.L. Bible School Class, assisted with meals on wheels and was a retired secretary for the City of Hopewell. She was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Virginia Williamson O’Neill and the widow of Leonard Lee Elrod. Mrs. Elrod is survived by two sons, Maynard L. Elrod of Chester, David R. Elrod of Las Vegas, NV, 3 grandchildren, Michael Lee Elrod, Susan Neal Towns, both of Richmond, VA, Clifton Faris Elrod of Chester, 2 great grandchildren, Reilly Towns and Avery Towns, both of Richmond, VA, one sister, Virginia Mary “Chic” Hobbs of Hopewell, a brother-in-law, Wellford Swift of Hopewell and a sister-in-law, Marjorie K. O’Neill of Richmond, VA. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 2, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:00PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Friday, December 3, 2004 at 11:00AM in City Point National Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. John Carpenter, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating.
