Alvah Edgar Crabtree, 79, of DeWitt, VA, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011. Born in Russell County, VA, he was the son of the late Alvah Ferd and Mona Stevens Crabtree. He was a U. S. Army veteran and a retired employee of CSX Railroad with 32 years of service. He was a Deacon at Smyrna Baptist Church in Dinwiddie. Mr. Crabtree was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eula Gay Crabtree; children, David Crabtree and wife, Christine, Donald Crabtree and wife, Elizabeth, Fred Crabtree (deceased) and widow, Rachel Lamberson, Linda Fischer, Mark Crabtree, Steven Crabtree and wife, Laurie, and Wendell Crabtree and wife, Tammy; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Asa Crabtree (deceased), Anniebee Musick, Irene Musick, Darlene Ball, Carson Crabtree, and Alfred Crabtree. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 23rd at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Smyrna Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Rowland officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
