Amelia Helen Gluza Moreno, 98, formerly of Norfolk, VA died Friday, January 13th at Petersburg Home for Ladies after a long struggle with dementia.
Born in Watervliet, New York, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Anna L. Wrosek Gluza. Amelia graduated as an R.N. from Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y. She received a B.S. from Columbia University and was a nursing instructor at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, New York. Prior to retirement she was employed by the Public Health Hospital in Norfolk, VA.
She will be remembered by her family and friends for her kindness, humility, integrity, and concern for others.
Amelia is survived by one daughter, Karen Davis (Robert) of Chester, VA, two sons, L. Bryan Moreno of Richmond, VA and Mark Moreno (Jennifer) of Midlothian, VA.; and seven grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Marion Brearton, Theodore Gluza, and Helen Jendrick.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sabina Lively, her long-timed devoted caregiver and the staff at the Petersburg Home for Ladies for their loving and compassionate care of our mother. A funeral mass and burial will be in New York. Mom, it breaks our hearts to lose you and we will love and miss you forever.
