Andrew Parsons

Smithfield, VA: Andrew S. Parsons age 81, a former resident of Waverly died April 29, 2009 at his residence in Smithfield. Born June 20, 1927 in Southampton County, he was the son of the late James Lafayette Parsons, Sr. and Rena Stephenson Parsons. Andrew retired in 1984 from VDOT, Waverly residence office, after 32 ½ years of employment. He was a loyal and dedicated lifetime member of Burtonâ??s Grove Christian Church UCC in Wakefield where he served as trustee and deacon for many years and he was also a member of the Hopewell Moose Lodge. Andrew was a loving husband and father. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother James L. Parsons, Jr. and sisters Martha P. Logan and Betty P. Norman.

In addition to his wife of 59 ½ Celia Emory Parsons, Andrew is survived by a daughter, Dianne Parsons Gwaltney, a loving â??sonâ?-in-law Alton H. Gwaltney, Jr., a sister Lois Parsons Bradshaw and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Burtonâ??s Grove Christian Church UCC, Wakefield, VA with the Rev. Roy Drake officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Waverly Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burtonâ??s Grove Christian Church UCC, 202 Jefferson Drive, Smithfield, VA 23430.
