Angela Mach Connelly

December 30, 1952 — October 16, 2013

Angela Mach Connelly, 60 of Dinwiddie, died unexpectedly on October 16, 2013, after several years of declining health. The fifth of five children born to Catherine and Stanley Mach, Angela grew up in the Petersburg area, was graduated from Gibbons High School, and attended Old Dominion University. She continued her studies in Business and Accounting at Solano College in California and the University of Phoenix. Angela settled in the San Francisco Bay area eventually working for the Bank of Concord. She later joined United Air Lines as a purchaser in the fabrics division. After the death of her husband in 1998, Angela returned home in 2001 to assist her parents in their waning years. She became very active in her Church, St. John’s, serving in many capacities, especially as Eucharist Minister. She helped coordinate and worked tirelessly on the celebration for the 100th anniversary of the church. Angela was a member of the Parish Council and the Bereavement Committee. She often helped prepare meals for the homeless shelter. Angela was also involved with her community acting as President and Secretary of her Homeowners Association. She was always available to help a neighbor or church friend in need of transportation or a listening ear. Angela was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas John Connelly, her parents, and her brother Brian Thomas Mach. She leaves grieving siblings Bernadette (Thomas) Rouse of Alpharetta, GA; Andrea (David) Slatinsky of Eads, TN; Stanley (Susan) Mach of Concord, North Carolina. Angela was a devoted aunt to nieces: Rene R. Kummer, Amy S. Norsworthy, Jennifer M. Lazarus and Alison M. Scalvini, and nephews: Anthony B. Rouse, Timothy B. Mach, and David M. Slatinsky. She was so proud of her great-aunt status to 12 great-nieces and nephews. Angela is also survived by two aunts, Elizabeth R. Piecek of Sutherland, and Elizabeth M. Vesely of Petersburg. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2013, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American LungAssociation of Virginia, 9702 Gayton Road #110, Richmond, VA 23238.
