Anita Snyder Hughes

Anita "Liz" Snyder Hughes, 82, of Hopewell, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022. Born July 20, 1939 in Oakwood, VA, she was the daughter of the late William Grant Snyder and Eva Elizabeth Sarver Snyder. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard Hughes; brother, Marvin "Teddy" Snyder; sister, Brenda Irish; brother-in-law, William H. Hughes; sister-in-law, Juanita Hughes; and son-in-law, Dan Barina.
Liz was raised in Longshop, VA until she was 10 years old, she then went to the Lutheran Children's Home located in Salem, VA. She graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1957. She was employed with Partin Oil Company in Enon, VA as Office Manager for 20 years. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, sewing, crocheting, baking cakes, and bluegrass music. She will forever be known as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Liz was a kind, giving person and was loved by everyone she met.
She is survived by son, Leonard W. Hughes; daughters, Laura Shields, Lisa Sylvester (Tim), and Lanissa Hughes; grandchildren, Jason Shields, Larissa Shields, Joey Roesch (Kathryn), Taylor Hughes (J.D. Penegar), and Lindsey Sylvester; great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Alexis Shields; nieces, Vicki Weber, Melissa Irish, Cindy Hughes, and Karen Killgore; sisters, Sandra Anderson and Debbie Simmons; brother, Perry M. Snyder and Rodney Snyder; sister-in-law, Marsha Hughes; devoted friends, Evelyn Noonkester, Annie Foley Smith and Charles Lewis; and numerous extended family and friends. "Love you forever."
