Anita Spainhour Keen, 91, passed away at Nova Springs Assisted Living in Finksburg, MD on October 18, 2020 with her daughters at her side.
She was born in Colonial Heights, VA on October 1, 1929 and lived most of her life in Colonial Heights; Chester, VA; and Meadville, PA. Anita was the daughter of Eustace and Willis Stewart and was graduated from Radford College with a two-year secretarial degree. She married James D. Spainhour in 1950. James passed in 1971, and Anita was remarried to Charles M. Keen in 1983, who passed in 2002. She was a housewife and mother and also served as a secretary in the Allegheny College Athletic Office and the Chesterfield County Health Department.
Anita was a member of the Chester United Methodist Church and the Saegertown United Methodist Church and was involved in many VA church activities, as well as the Chester Women's Club. She was an avid reader and sports fan and could talk college and professional sports with the best of them. She also loved attending her grandchildren's games when possible. Anita loved cats and dogs and cared for furry companions throughout her life.
Anita's world revolved around her family. She loved spending time with her daughters Sharon Spainhour Booker (Joseph) and Libby Spainhour Wilson (Thomas). Anita adored her eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is survived by a brother-in-law Harold R. Spainhour of Charlottesville, VA.
Anita's remains will be interred in the Blandford Church Cemetery in Petersburg, VA. A visitation will be held from 01:00 p.m. to 03:00 p.m. on Thursday July 29, 2021 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the Baltimore Humane Society, 1601 Nicodemus Rd., Reisterstown, MD 21136.
