Ann Lawrence Cecil, age 70, died on January 13, 2008. She was born on January 14, 1937 in Petersburg, Virginia to Helen Ward Lawrence and John Emory Lawrence. She graduated from Randolph-Macon Womanâ??s College and later received an associate degree in nursing from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. A community volunteer all of her adult life, she worked for Navy Relief, The American Red Cross, and The American Cancer Societyâ??s Reach to Recovery Program. She was a docent emeritus at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, a former Henrico CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and a Meals on Wheels volunteer. Mrs. Cecil was a communicant of All Saints Episcopal Church and a member of the Country Club of Virginia, The Tuckahoe Womanâ??s Club and the Council of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Mrs. Cecil was predeceased by her husband, Louis Otey Smith, the father of her two children, John Guthrie Smith and his wife Sarah of Chesapeake, and Nancy Smith Gibson and her husband Jeffrey of Wilmington, North Carolina. She was also predeceased by her husband, Nelson Donald Cecil. She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Lawrence Shearer and her husband Cyrus of Fairfax, and Susan Lawrence Berberich and her husband David of Chesterfield; her step-sons, Michael Donald Cecil of White Stone, Timothy John Cecil of Richmond, Robert Thomas Cecil of Seneca Rocks, West Virginia and Alexander Wilson Cochran Cecil of Richmond; and seven grandchildren, Emory and Molly Gibson, Sydney, Madelyn and Mason Smith, Alexa and Wilson Cecil. A graveside service will be held in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg on Wednesday, January 16th at 11am with Reverend William Queen officiating.
