Ann Hatcher Shelton

April 1, 1927 — August 19, 2016

Ann Hatcher Shelton, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2016. Born on April 1, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Leslie Edward Hatcher and Ileen Cochran Hatcher. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Lewis Overton Shelton, and her sister, Rita Hatcher Tuttle. Ann was raised in Chester and graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 1944 and retired from Chesterfield County Public Schools in 1992. She is survived by her children, Stephen Lee Shelton of Chesterfield, Paul Hunter Shelton of Chester, and Bruce Edward Shelton and his wife, Teresa of Smith Mountain Lake; granddaughters, Laurel Douglas Shelton, Natalie Paige Shelton, and Mary Alexandra Shelton; her niece, Carol Hamilton of Vancouver, British Columbia; nephews, John Marthinsen of Sherborn, Massachusetts and Craig Marthinsen of Toronto, Ontario. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am -11:00 am for a “Celebration of Life” service on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Chester United Methodist Church with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Chester United Methodist Church, 12132 Percival Street, Chester, VA 23831, or the charity of your choice.
