Ann Skelton Walthall, ninety-one, passed away February 8, 2024. She was born in Petersburg, VA, on February 7, 1933, to the late Benjamin and Lucy Skelton. She was a lifelong resident of Petersburg. She is survived by her son, Clay Walthall and his wife, Julie, of Timberville; daughter, Ellen Walthall, of Petersburg; and son, David Walthall, of Petersburg; grandchildren, Ben Walthall (Kaitlyn), of Arlington, Stephen Walthall (Zoe), of Richmond, Katie Walthall (Matt), of Rockingham, and Kylan Poulin (Bryce), of Rockingham; great-grandchildren, Elle Walthall, Evan Walthall, William Walthall, Jack Walthall, Hazel Walthall, Elyse Poulin, Olivia Poulin; and eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Barclay Ross Walthall, Jr.; three sisters; and four brothers. She was a graduate of Petersburg High School. She worked as a dental assistant, teacher's aide, and thirty years as co-owner/bookkeeper of Gold Leaf Trucking Company before retiring. In retirement, she worked part-time as the church secretary for First Christian Church. She enjoyed working with children and kept the nursery for over sixty years at First Christian Church and later Covenant Presbyterian Church. She valued the fellowship of her church community. She enjoyed reading, word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with family and friends. She was a great listener, told wonderful stories, and had an enthusiastic sense of humor. Her favorite places in the summer were Corolla, North Carolina, and Battlefield Park Swim Club. She enjoyed decorating and making holidays special for her family and friends. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was kind and generous to a fault with the people in her life. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held at Southlawn Memorial Park, in Petersburg, at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, followed by a 12:00 PM memorial celebration, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, in Petersburg.
