Annie P. Abernathy Barnes, 89 of Old Hickory, Dinwiddie County, died Thursday, January 8, 2004 at home. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James R. Abernathy and Denice W. Barnes; parents, Mary P. Faison and Archer W. Perkins; brother, Witherspoon Perkins and sister, Mary C. Abernathy. She is survived by her daughter, Carol A. Barnes an husband, Francis; sons, James D. Abernathy and wife Marian B. and Dwayne H. Abernathy; grandchildren, Tracy B. Nicholson, James B. Barnes, Chad Hall and Joel D. Abernathy; step-daughter, Dale B. Mauney and husband Don and other granddaughters, Marsha Randler, Ginger Brain, Dona Stuart and “Tish” Mauney; five great-granchildren, two nieces and three nephews. Mrs. Barnes was a retired teacher of Dinwiddie Elementary School and a longtime member of Concord United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends from 5-7:30 PM Sunday at the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg. Funeral service will be conducted 2 PM Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg.
