Archie Thweatt

Archie Moore Thweatt, 101, of Hopewell, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2012. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hopewell. Mr. Thweatt was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was retired from the Postal Service on Fort Lee in 1981 after forty-six years of service. Mr. Thweatt was born in Petersburg, he was a longtime resident of Hopewell, and had most recently lived with his grandson and his family for the past six years in Prince George. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Thweatt; a son, Bruce Eley Sr.; two sisters, Frances Shivar, and Libby Towler; and his parents, Archiebald and Fanny Moore Thweatt. Mr. Thweatt is survived by a grandson, Bruce Eley Jr. and his wife Kathryn; a great grandson, Bruce Eley III; two sisters, Margaret Lyon of Roanoke, Virginia, and Anne Townes of Louisville, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Rickman officiating. Interment will be private. The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
