Arlette Gormus Brown, 89, of Midlothian, Virginia passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of July 14, 2018. She was born in Richmond, Virginia on September 7, 1928 and graduated from John Marshall High School. In 1955 she was married in Richmond to husband, Linwood Allen Brown. Arlette was the executive secretary for Virginia Electric & Power Company (VEPCO), office of the Vice President in Richmond. She and Linwood moved to Hopewell in 1956 where she was employed by Continental Can Company and Stone Container Corporation for 28 years as engineering secretary. Arlette was a member of First Christian Church in Hopewell and an associate member of Bon Air Christian Church in Richmond. She was an active member of the CWF Women’s Fellowship in Hopewell and was a member of the Berean class. Arlette was also a member of the Eastern Star Adah Chapter #7, and a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club. She was an avid writer for the Chesterfield Heights Retirement Living Community Newsletter until her death. Arlette was the daughter of the late Bernard E. Gormus and Violet Peters Gormus of Richmond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood and sister, Dolores Gormus Thomas. Survivors include daughter Rhonda Ringel and son-in-law Mark of Midlothian and daughter Trudy Sanderson and son-in-law Albert of South Chesterfield; two grandchildren Bobby Herman of Cullen and Natalie Ringel of Midlothian; sister-in-law, Suzanne Peterson of Smithfield; niece, Linda Shelton of Chesterfield, and nephew, Randy Thomas of Powhatan. The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. on July 18, 2018 at J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 820 W. Broadway in Hopewell. A ceremony will follow the viewing and a graveside prayer will be held at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens in Prince George, Virginia.
