Arthur Wilbur Hayes

Arthur "AW" Wilbur Hayes, 84, of Sutherland, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Born in Dinwiddie, VA, he was the son of the late Ernest J. Hayes and Annie Hogwood Hayes. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ernest "Sonny" J. Hayes.
AW worked as a heavy equipment operator, retiring after 40 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His greatest passion was music and he loved to play the guitar and sing in his bluegrass band, The Dinwiddie Blue Grass Boys.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ethel Hayes; children, Connie Story and Gail Hayes; stepchildren, Rodney Cimburke, Rhonda Westra, Donna Blackburn, and Donny Cimburke (Kathy); 2 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2022 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2022 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
