Arthur Mcghee

d. February 16, 2009

Arthur Francis McGhee, our beloved Frank, age 59, quietly slipped away from his courageous fight with lung cancer on Thursday, February 12, 2009. Frank was born and educated in the Mechanicsville area of Virginia. Frank spent many years in the grocery business; first in Richmond, then at Cal-Ray followed by a stint as a route salesman with Lance before returning to the grocery business at Food Lion in Windsor. Frank, also known as Stickman, loved a good joke, a silly prank and all those with whom he shared a laugh.
Frank is survived by his wife of 14 years, Joyce Hollowell, of Zuni; his daughter, Megan M. Mowery of Virginia Beach; two stepsons and one daughter-in-law, Lee and Justin (Catherine) Jones. His granddaughters, Samantha Lynn Mowery and Logan Jones, brightened his life and wrapped him around their fingers. Frank is also survived by his mother, Pauline P. McGhee of Mechanicsville; sister, Joan Adams (Cheatam); and brother, Willaim G. McGhee. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert P. McGhee; brother, Robert P. McGhee, Jr.; and sister, Judith M. King.
The family would like to thank all those who made our lives easier during Frankâ??s illness by reaching out to provide strength and support. A special thank you to Virginia Oncology Associates, Sentara Home Care and Hospice Program, our special Neighbor, Donnie and Andrea West; and Kathy Ramage, care giver and friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Suffolk Sentara Hospice Program or Ivor Rescue Squad. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 2:00PM at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Purviance Chapel, 11414 General Mahone Hwy., Wakefield, VA 23888.
Iâ??d like the memory of me
To be a happy one.
Iâ??d like to leave an afterglow
Of smiles when life is done.
Iâ??d like to leave an echoâ?¦.
Whispering softly down
The ways of happy times
And laughing times and
Bright and sunny days.
Iâ??d like the tears of those
Who grieve to dry before
The sun of happy memories
That I leave behind
When life is done
