Arthur Theodore Rakers

Arthur Theodore Rakers, 78, of Prince George, Virginia, passed away November 4, 2015 at MCV Hospital. He was born in Belleville, Illinois, November 28, 1936 to the late Henry and Anna Fehlker Rakers. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Tausig, her husband, William, and granddaughters, Abigail Frances and Elisabeth Joyce, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Chudoba Rakers, and his siblings, Leo Rakers, Lawrence Rakers, Joseph Rakers, Leona Eversgerd, Crescentia Eversgerd, Rosalia Goebel, Mary Louise Baumann, Cornelius Rakers, Vincent Rakers, Ralph Rakers, Florence Berra, Robert Rakers, Alice Herbert, and Helen Rakers. Mr. Rakers served in the U.S. Army prior to nearly 30 years in civil service at Fort Lee. Following his retirement, he worked for the Colonial Heights Water Department for several years. He was an active parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served in many capacities over the years. For many years, he gave freely of his time as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and as a volunteer with Crater Community Hospice for 19 years. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Christian Wake will follow at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the church.
