Austen Clifton “Micky” Micklem, Jr., 90 of Chester, VA passed away, Saturday, November 5, 2016.
He is the son of the late Austen Clifton Micklem, Sr. and Alice Trahern Cook Micklem; he is also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Micklem and sister-in-law, Jean Micklem.
Mr. Micklem had a long and distinguished career with the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice, including as a Regional Administrator and at the end of his career as Deputy Director; he served in the United States Navy during World War II and had a deep love of his country, cherished its freedoms and always honored the sacrifices that ensured them; Micky was a devoted, longtime active member of the Chester Presbyterian Church and faithfully served in numerous roles; he was active in the community serving as a Boy Scout Leader and coaching little league, among other activities; and he was a world class dog lover and had a reverence for all of nature.
Micky was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by sons, Mark Cunningham Micklem and wife, Elizabeth, Austen Clifton “Cliff” Micklem, III and wife, Yolanda; daughter, Alice McDonald Micklem; his twin brother, James Trahern Micklem, Roland Thomas Micklem and Colbert Farrar Micklem and wife, Kay; five grandchildren, Karie Dorrance and husband, William, Paige Micklem, Carter Micklem, Katie Micklem, Laura Micklem and fiancé, Joshua Sharlow and a large loving extended family and many longtime friends who enriched his life.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Jiho Han, Elsie Martin and James T. Micklem, Jr. for their kindness and excellent care of Micky.
The family will receive friends, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home 3050 W. Hundred Rd. Chester, VA.
A service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Chester Presbyterian Church, 3424 W. Hundred Rd Chester, VA 23831. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
