B.B. Dusty Rhodes, 77, of Sutherland, VA, died Saturday, July 22, 2017 at his residence. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Charles Clayton and Carolyn Unger Rhodes. He retired as Master Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service, including combat action in Vietnam. He received numerous awards and citations, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Following his discharge from the Navy, Dusty began a long career in law enforcement in Orlando, FL. After moving to Virginia, he served as Magistrate for Petersburg and Dinwiddie County, and in 2008 was elected Sheriff of Dinwiddie County. Dusty was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church and was especially fond of his Sunday school class. He was also a member of the Sutherland Ruritan Club. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lynn Titmus Rhodes; daughters, Audrey Rhodes Erdmann (Jim) of Sutherland, VA, Tammy Rhodes Burns of Orlando, FL, and Wendy. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah Crandall (Tyler), Heather Perkey (Justin), and Gunner Erdmann; a great-granddaughter, Zella Perkey; his siblings, Judith James (Roy) of Jasper, TX, Susan Zaffater (Joe) of St. Petersburg Beach, FL, Nancy Nicholson (Charlie) of Brookeland, TX, Brian Rhodes of Covington, LA, Chuck Rhodes (Avery) of Natchitoches, TX, and David Rhodes (Faye) of Minneapolis, MN, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Smyrna Baptist Church, 18725 Carson Road, Dinwiddie, VA 23841.
