Barbara Wells "Granny" Clements, 89, of Spring Grove, VA, passed away at her home on the family farm surrounded by the love and memories of her family, on Friday, October 6, 2023. Born in Hopewell, VA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Morton Marks Wells; and was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, John Waverly Clements; and one brother, Henry Wells. Mrs. Clements was a 1952 graduate of Hopewell High School, and had retired from Allied Chemical after 40 years of dedicated service. She was an active member of Newville United Methodist Church and enjoyed quilting, playing Hand and Foot with her girlfriends, baking her famous poundcake, and sipping on a nice glass of wine. Affectionally known as "Ballfield Granny," she loved a good baseball or softball game, and keeping score of all her grandchildren's games. Mrs. Clements is survived by her two sons, Johnny Clements (Penny) and Bill Clements; five grandchildren, William Clements (Rachel), Robert Clements, Waverly Clements (Brittany), Whitney Clements (Reese Parker), and Wade Clements (Madison Cleveland); six great-grandchildren, Trey, Caroline, Mandie, Hudson, Cayson, and Savannah; her sister, Helen Wells Piner; and her devoted friend, Elizabeth Hobbs. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at the funeral home.
