Barbara Edrick, 85, of Petersburg, VA, passed away May 29, 2021. Born in New York, at infancy she was adopted by the late George and Mae Pickenpack and raised in Long Island. After attending Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, VA, with decades long support from step-mother the late Pauline Pickenpack, Barbara worked in New York City and soon married Elliot “Bud” Edrick, who pre-deceased her after 40 years of marriage. They had world travel adventures in advertising and hospitality enterprises. Most notable times included innkeepers in New Hampshire and a small boutique restaurant in Belize during retirement years.
Her two daughters survive Barbara: Patty Edrick-Grogan of Winston Salem, NC and Pam Edrick-Smith of Danbury, CT. Four grandchildren of Barbara include: granddaughters Darcy Grogan of Reston, VA, Mathi Smith and sister Maille Smith of Brooklyn, NY; and grandson Keegan Grogan USCG Sector Guam. She taught art and elegance to all her grandchildren.
The family wishes that Barbara be remembered for her compassion for all she met. She held love of arts from cooking, music, gardening, elegant parties she always hosted, Scrabble, and, of course, to her own recognizable talents in mediums from pencil sketch to oils. A very active member of the Art League in Petersburg, Barbara was also highly recognized for her devotion to the arts in the small village of Placentia, Belize.
All that knew Barbara also know that she held a strong commitment to the ASPCA and humane society … she adopted many felines over the years. Her family is grateful that a hospice friend will care for her two cats that were by her side.
Barbara’s family wants to thank all her close friends that always put a smile on her face. In particular, Janice Hayes, fellow Petersburg artist, who held her hand at time of passing.
According to Barbara’s wishes, a private celebration of life reception will be held for immediate family shortly. Her wishes included a future scattering at sea in the Caribbean where Bud was celebrated.
