Barbara Hopper

Barbara Gwaltney Hopper, 71, of Claremont passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2011. She was a loving wife and mother. Mrs. Hopper was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and a member of St. Paulâ??s Episcopal Church in Surry. She retired after 27 years as a teacher for Surry County Public Schools and was a published author. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, R. Ashton Gwaltney and Rebecca Frances Berryman Gwaltney and her husband, Mr. Laurie Pennington Hopper.
Mrs. Hopper is survived by her daughter, Patsy E. H. Rush and husband, John; son, Thomas P. Hopper and wife, Alice A.; brother, R. Charles Gwaltney and wife, Jennifer; sister, Martha G. Coward and husband, David and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Wakefield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at St. Paulâ??s Episcopal Church in Surry with Rev. Macon Walton officiating. Burial will follow at Claremont Cemetery.
