Barbara Schaefer Mueller, born February 10, 1935, passed peacefully into her savior's arms, on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
She is survived by five children, Herman III (Kim), Chris (Sherry), Diane (Jim), Steven (Lori), and Catherine. She is also survived by twelve loving grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Barbara is also survived by her sisters, Brenda Lavin and Bonnie Hughes.
Barbara was deeply religious and had a significant role in helping build her church, St. Augustine Catholic, where she was a very active member of the congregation.
She was a loving wife and mother and ran her husband's plumbing business in Chester, until his sudden death in 1980. She found herself being a single mom to her children, having to maintain her Chester house, as well as, her beloved Gwynn's Island Home, where many cherished memories were made.
An interview and article dated August 5, 1998, in the Richmond Times Dispatch titled "They've Counted on Her" best describes her work ethic and dedication to her family. She started working part-time with Chesterfield County in the Treasurer's Office under Richard Cordle and after 17 years retired as Deputy Treasurer. She loved her time at the Courthouse so much she returned for a few years after her retirement to work for the County Administrator.
Barbara loved playing cards and made many lifelong friends playing Bridge and other challenging card games.
Everyone that knew Barbara knew that they could count on her. She now joins in heaven her husband, many lifelong friends, and the many family members that have passed over the years. We know that those she is now with can count on her as well.
