Barbara "Carol" Townsend, age 68, of Marion, VA, passed away on November 9, 2024. She was born on March 4, 1956, in Marion, Virginia, and grew up in Chester, VA, to Clarence and Betty Henegar. Carol was a loving wife, sister, aunt, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Carol was married to Donnie Townsend, and was the middle child of her two brothers, Dennis Henegar and Gerald "Jerry" Henegar. She also gained a beloved sister-in-law, when Jerry married, Kathy Henegar. Carol's legacy lives on through her nieces and nephews, Brianna Springer (Conner Springer), Michaela Henegar, Ruby Vaught, Rachelle Henegar, Katie Henegar, Kevin Cottrell (Edna Cottrell), and Eddie Cottrell (Crystal Cottrell).
A passionate member of the James River Black Powder Association and the 12th Virginia Infantry. Carol loved history and the camaraderie of those with similar interests. She was an avid outdoorswoman, with a special fondness for camping and spending time in nature. Carol had a deep love for bluegrass music and was in the process of learning to play the bass, a hobby she took great joy in. She also enjoyed shooting black powder rifles and cherished the many friendships she formed along the way.
One of Carol's greatest loves was traveling, particularly to Alaska, where she marveled at the beauty of the landscape and the adventure of exploring new places. Her travels filled her with joy and created lasting memories with family and friends.
Carol's warm heart and generous spirit made her a cherished member of her community. Her presence will be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home - Petersburg Chapel. A graveside service will take place at Centralia Cemetery, on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
