Beate Ernestine Johnson

Beate Ernestine Bittel Johnson, 64, of Petersburg, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013 at Southside Regional Medical Center. She was born October 30, 1948 in Bamberg, Germany to the late Heinrich and Gunda Hofmann Bittel. She is preceded in death by a brother Franz Bittel. She loved crocheting, gardening; including flowers, birds, fishing, and bowling; she adored her family especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Gregg Stephen Johnson; daughter, Karin Smallwood and husband, Michael; three grandchildren, Steven, Paul and Mirco; brothers, Peter Bittel and wife, Andrea, Anton Bittel, Eddie Bittel, Rainer Bittel; sisters, Elfriede Redman and husband, Bill; Lydia Rekus and Billie Rekus; Aunt Karonette and her husband Uncle Gottfried; and her best friends, Veronica Havens and husband, Butch. Mass of the Resurrection will be held 1 pm Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Memorial Chapel in Fort Lee, VA. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T.
