In loving memory of Benjamin "Ben" Gordon Brooks. It is with great sadness that the family of Benjamin "Ben" Gordon Brooks announce his passing from this world on January 1, 2024, at the young age of 40 years old. Ben was a beloved father, son, brother, nephew, loyal friend, and prankster. Ben's love for his family and friends was strong and felt by all who knew him. Ben was a special person who enjoyed making people smile, laugh, and feel uncomfortable by his jokes, that were mostly funny. Ben's loss will be irreplaceable, but the family is grateful that the Lord gave us 40 years with him.
Ben was born on September 7, 1983, in Richmond, Virginia, to Alicia B. Brooks and Gerry G. Arnold. From an early age, Ben loved wrestling with his cousins and uncle, being mischievous and getting into everything, but mostly just loved doing what he could do to make people laugh and have fun.
As Ben grew older, he became more interested in reading, playing Chess, which he was one of the best Chess players his family knew, and gaining an appreciation for philosophy and higher learning. Ben became more focused on his education in the later years and loved to learn, earning multiple certifications in the HVAC and Electricians trade, and receiving his "journeyman" card in HVAC and he came close to completing his electrical engineering degree at John Tyler Community College. Ben worked at Colonial Webb, a job in which he loved, and they were an employer that fostered his growth and provided him opportunities to learn more.
Ben is survived by his mother, Alicia B. Barnett; his sisters, Ashley Arnold (Adin) and Amber Pierce (Brian); Brittany Harris; his two daughters, Briar Harris and Blake Brooks; niece, Alexandra "Lexi" Lopez Arnold; nephews, Jordan Arnold and Adin Lopez Arnold; grandparents, William and Juanita Brooks; aunt, Michele Heilman (Steve); uncle, David Brooks (Shelley); cousins, Joshua Lachowski (Katie) and Andrew Lamoureaux (Alexis); and many other loving family members. Ben was a special person and will forever remain in his family's hearts and memories. He will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Chester Chapel, 3050 W. Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23831, where a funeral ceremony will follow at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support the education of Ben's daughters, Briar and Blake.
