Bernard Edward Michael, CMDR, USN Retired, 87, of Oxford, N.C. died Tuesday, November 30, 2004. He was the son of the late Bernard L. and Lillian Wells Michael and was the widow of Betty Lorraine Michael and was preceeded in death by a daughter, Lillian Anne Garner. He was a retired pilot for the U. S. Navy, which he served from July 27, 1935 to August 31, 1960. During WWII he served on anti-submarine patrols, Atlantic Ocean Area, Carribbean Bay Biscay, English Coast , the North Sea and the Pacific Theater. He is survived by two daughters; Carol L. Landis of Columbia, S.C. and Sally L. Shope and her husband Bob of Oxford, N.C.; and a son; Donald E. Michael and his wife Merry of Bowie, Md.; 14 grandchildren, 23 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, December 3, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Steven Bolton officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 2, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
