Bernice Cates

Bernice Spain Cates, 80 of Petersburg died Monday, June 7, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Thayer Spain and a lifelong resident of Dinwiddie Co. She was preceded in death by Neal Spain, Beulah Spain, Edward Spain, Raymond Spain, Iris Smith, Garland Spain, Woodrow Spain and Johnny Spain. She is survived by her husband Robert C. Cates; daughter, Cheryl Ann Antosh and husband Raymond of Burke, VA; granddaughter, Lori Rebecca Antosh, Burke, VA., several nieces and nephews; several special friends. Christine Alcaraz of Chester, Carter and Louise Murphy and Helen Graham both of Petersburg, sister-in-laws, Alice Spain of Petersburg and Vera Spain of Colonial Heights. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at Blandford Cemetery. Family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 PM at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Captial Campaign Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, 235 W. Washington St., Petersburg, VA 23803.
