Bernice J. Childress

Bernice Jenkins Childress, 88, of Petersburg, widow of Alvin Judson Childress, Sr., passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012. Born in Crewe, VA, she was the daughter of the late Philip Edward and Annie Sue Glover Jenkins. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and a volunteer for the Foster Grandparent Program at Walnut Hill Elementary School. Mrs. Childress is survived by a daughter, Connie Hale of Church Road; a son, Alvin J. Childress, Jr. of Chester; grandchildren, Dennis Hale and wife, Barbara, and Spencer Hale all of Church Road, Amber Childress and Will Childress both of Chester; great-grandchildren, Austin and Aaron Hale; a sister, Gertrude Barts. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 15th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
