Bernice Akers Godsey

Bernice Akers Godsey of Midlothian, VA died on July 3, 2017. Born and raised in Hopewell, VA, she is preceded in death by her husband William Godsey. She is survived by her son, Lin Godsey and his wife Mary Katharine, her daughter Sheree Greenfield and her husband Scott; grandchildren Scott Godsey, Amy Pearce, Bryce Godsey, Laura Moore, Kristin Swineford and ten great-grandchildren. She graduated from the Nursing School at Petersburg General Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1945. She served as the Hopewell City nurse and as a school nurse for the Hopewell City Schools until her retirement. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the Appomattox Cemetery in Hopewell. The family will receive friends following the service. A celebration of life party will be held at the Beacon Theater from 12:30-3:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
